Global Awareness Bake Sale Global Awareness will be having a Bake Sale before and after school Monday, October 27-Friday, October 31 in the Commons. Stop by and purchase a treat for yourself or a friend!! The Bake Sale benefits Charity:Water organization.


Girls Soccer There will be a girls soccer meeting after school on Thursday 10/30/14 in Coach Palmer’s room for girls interested in playing soccer in the spring. If you can’t stay after school for a few minutes then come by before school to Coach Palmer’s room.


Athlete survey...JV boys soccer & volleyball. JV boys soccer and volleyball athletes will complete the mandatory athlete survey on Tue, Oct 28, immediately after school in the computer lab rm 275. If you are unable to come at that time see Mr. Clark, as soon as possible, to make other arrangements.


GSA Any student who has been bullied on the new app Yik Yak is invited to GSA on Tuesday afternoon in the lecture hall. The club is a safe space for any student wishing to talk about the incident, how it made them feel, or how to deal with cyberbullying. As always, everyone who wishes to make our school a safer and more accepting place is welcome to attend.


Red Ribbon Week Monday - October 27th - Hat day – Hats off to being drug free! Tuesday – October 28th – Wear neon -I’m too bright for drugs! Wednesday-October 29th – Pajama day - Your choices are key to your dreams! Thursday– October 30th –Dress up! –Dress for Success Day: Dream It, Believe It and Achieve It! Be Drug Free! Friday – October 31st – Happy Halloween! Dress up to say, “There’s no hope for dope!”


COLLEGE SIGNING... On November 12th, Toshua Leavitt will be signing a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Texas State University. Tosh is the first D-1 basketball signee since 2003. The signing will take place at 2:45pm in the High School Library. Last season Tosh was 2nd team All-Conference, 1st team All-District, 1st team All-State Coaches Poll, 1st team All-State Media Selection, and set the single season 3 pt record for Nixa. She averaged 17 pts, 3 asst, 3 reb, 2 steals for the Lady Eagles.


Megan Meier Memorial Scholarship Information regarding the Megan Meier Memorial Scholarship can be found at http://www.meganmeierfoundation.org/megan-meier-memorial-scholarship.html This scholarship is open to any senior with a 2.5 GPA who believes they have made a positive impact in regards to the issues surrounding bullying and cyberbullying in their own school environment and community. Deadline is November 7th.


College Visits A representative will be available to talk with interested students during STAR. There is a sign-up sheet in the counseling center for each college/university. SBU: 10/30 Mizzou: 11/5 BBC: 11/13


Nurse For A Day Registration for the Nurse for a Day workshop is open. This workshop will help students better understand the challenging, yet rewarding, field of Nursing. Registration if on a first come, first served basis. Prudential Spirit of Community Award Any student who have participated in a volunteer service activity in the past year can apply for the 2015 Prudential Spirit of Community Award. More information and application can be found at http://spirit.prudential.com. Return the required documents to the counseling center once you have applied.


Elks Scholarship Applications for the Elks National Foundation, Inc. 2015 Most Valuable Student Scholarship Contest is now available. You can obtain an application by visiting www.elks.org/enf/scholars/mvs.cfm The counseling center has the address for application submission. Do not submit your application to the local Elks Lodge. The deadline for submission is December 5. The Elks also offer a scholarship to children and grandchildren of Elks members. This application is available at www.elks.org/enf/scholars


Young Entrepreneur Award Applications are being accepted for the Young Entrepreneur Award. Applications can be found at www.nfib.com/YEA The deadline for submission is December 18.


MO JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship The Missouri JCI Senate Foundation has a $250.00 scholarship available. Apply online at http://usjcisenate.org/index.php/scholarship-program The deadline for application is January 9, 2015.


JFK Profile in Courage Essay The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation invites high school students to write an essay on an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1956. COMPASS A sign-up sheet is available for students interested in taking the COMPASS. The COMPASS is for students who have not taken and ACT, SAT, or ASVAB and for those students planning on attending OTC in the fall. The testing dates are November 11th and 12th. You will need to sign up for one date only.


Ranken Visit A representative from Ranken will be here on November 14th to talk with students about their automotive program. This program allows students to attend classes for 8 weeks and then work in a paid internship for 8 weeks. A sign-up sheet is in the counseling center.
