Nixa High School Bulletin for Thursday, April 17, 2014

The library will be closed for student access Tuesday, April 22 through Friday, April 25 for EOC testing. The library will be open 1st lunch. Students may pick up a STAR pass from the library before school and between 1st and 2nd block.

FCCLA…Meeting and last community service project of the year! Tuesday, 4/22 in Mrs. Newberry’s room either before or after school. We will be holding elections for 2014-2015 officers and making blankets for the Project Linus organization. Seniors also need to check points for graduation honors. See you there!

Juniors: Missouri Southern is hosting its Junior Discovery Day On Friday, April 18. More information can be found online at www.mssu.edu/discover or by calling 417-625-9364.

Enrollment for the 2014 Summer School term is now open! You can find the enrollment form at the NHS Summer School website at http://www.nixahs.net/pages/Nixa_High/About_NHS/Summer_School. Enrollment will close at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 27th. Please communicate with your parents to ensure you only enroll once. Questions may be directed to the specific summer school teacher or Mr. Webster.

SENIORS: Sign up for the Silver Dollar City trip in the counselor’s office. The cost is $25.00 and you must be signed up by May 7, 2014.

The Art Club meeting for April is going to be rescheduled for April 23! We will be making newsprint baskets! Come to room 228 after school! ALL ARE WELCOME!

CONGRATULATIONS to the student winners at the annual Foreign Language Field Day Competition at MSSU in Joplin on Tuesday, April 8. Nixa took 2nd place overall for Spanish competition, and Culture Bowl. Team Members Elijah Farrales, Chase Herman, Marcus Johnson, and Elijah Leffler defeated Branson in the Final Round for 1st place. CONGRATULATIONS to the following students who placed in their individual level competitions in Spanish: Nickolas Robbins-3rd place Geography, Elijah Farrales- 1st place Poetry Reading, Chase Herman and Elijah Leffler- 1st place Reading Comprehension, Makayla Nickell-2nd place Vocabulary Recognition, Grace Park-3rd place Vocabulary Recognition, Lacey Bricker and Cassidy Oitker- 2nd place Vocablulary Recogntion and in French: Lexxi LaChance-3rd place Poetry Reading, and Alex Lurvey, Emily Endacott, Katie King, and Cameron Mitchell for 3rd place French Culture Bowl.

Join the Nixa Color Guard! Any HS grade girl that is interested in auditioning for the high school color guard should pick up some information and sign up outside the band room. There will be audition “camps” were the staff will teach you all that you need to know for the actual audition. Those camps start next Monday on April 21. If you are involved in another activity but are still interested in auditioning, please email craigfinger@nixaschools.net to see what arrangements can be made. The high school color guard is a section of the band program, performing at all home varsity football games as well as many contest around Missouri and the surrounding states. Email the director if you have any questions.

COLLEGE SIGNING... Paige Hill will be signing with William Jewell College for swimming on April 24 at 2:45 pm in the Nixa High School Library. All are welcome to attend.

Attention SOPHOMORES: If you consider yourself a leader in our school and community, you might be eligible to win an all-expense paid trip to Jefferson City to participate in The Cooperative Youth Conference & Leadership Experience (CYCLE). The trip is scheduled for July 9-11. Applications are available in the counseling center. Deadline for submission is April 30, 2014. Visit www.amec.org for more details.

Summers @ Mizzou is a program designed to bring youth age 12-18 to the University of Missouri campus. Youth will have a chance to experience life as a college student by living in the dorms, eating in a dining hall and exploring campus and Columbia. These camps are great for those beginning to think about college and their future career. Summers @ Mizzou will be held July 13-17 and July 20-24. There are specific sessions for each dates.
